Delta State Government has organized a one day workshop on generation of test items for the 2025 promotion examination in public secondary schools across the state with a call on examiners to discharge their responsibility effectively for the educational advancement of the state in line with the M.O.R.E Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's administration.
The State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu made the call in her keynote address to declare the workshop open in Asaba.
Ezewu said that the exercise involved the engagement of teachers from various secondary schools in the state, who were experienced subject specialists from different disciplines faced with the task of generating quality test items for promotion to the next class .
She reminded them that the duty of building an examination ethics friendly Delta State rested on them, urging them to ensure that they put on their best to do a good job.
The Commissioner, who explained that the resource persons were experts in curriculum design, measurement and evaluation that would educate participants on the modalities that would guide them in raising standard and credible items , congratulated the examiners and implored them not to betray the trust reposed in them .
Earlier, the Director of Examinations in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Clementina Ojumah said that the workshop was an annual rituals, designed for them to discuss, share reliable insights and raise valid questions, noting that the two resource persons would take them through measurement and evaluation in basic education and curriculum design and implementation in Basic and Secondary Education in Nigeria.
Ojumah told the participants that they would be expected to generate 50 multiple choice and 5 essay questions as applicable to their subject areas.
She admonised participants to pay adequate attention to the resource persons and ask quality questions that would enable them have credible and reliable test items, saying that all hands must be on deck to achieve that, just as she enjoined the examiners to be committed in carrying out the assignment.
In an interview with journalists, the Chairman of ANCOPSS, Oshimili South chapter, and the principal of West End Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, Mrs. Augusta Ogeah lauded the state government for its effort in improving the education system.
The Principal underscored the need for the examiners to give good account of themselves by carrying out their assignment diligently to meet the expectations of the state government, appreciating the Ministry for timely conduct of examinations.
Resource persons including Dr. (Barr.) Emmanuel Oniyama of College of Education, Warri and Dr.(Mrs.) Eseoghene Umoru Sule of College of Education, Mosogar made presentations on measurement and evaluation in basic education and curriculum design and implementation in Basic and Secondary Education in Nigeria respectively.
