In order to verify genuine Automobile Mechanics,the State Government is set for them to be
profiled.
Delta State Commissioner for Transport Mr Onoriode Agofure has emphasized the necessity to profile Automobile Mechanics and their affiliate artisans across the State.
Agofure,made the remark,when he held a Stakeholders meeting with State Chairmen,Branch and Unit Chairmen of Automobile Mechanics,Spare part Dealers and other affiliate Artisans,such as Automobile spray painters,welders amongst others at the Prof Chike Edozien Secretariat Complex.Asaba
The Commissioner,who was represented by the functioning Permanent Secretary(PS)Engr Victor Omoniyi,stated that ,the Profiling of the Automobile Mechanics and their affiliate artisans,such as Spare Parts Dealers,Automobile
Welders,automobile Spray painters was long over due,as their "services cut across the rich,middle class and those at the lower web of the larger society".
Agofure,disclosed that there was the urgent need, for the Automobile Mechanics and their affiliates to have proper documentation.
He reiterated that"the Profiling would entail eliciting all their required personal bio-data,such as their passport photograph,residential address,Workshop address amongst other information of the artisans".
The Commissioner further disclosed that some benefits/relevance of the exercise includes,mechanism to check quackery,it would enable government to have a formidable Data Base of Automobile Mechanics,and their affiliate artisans,creating of a symbotic relationship between Government and artisans,it would facilitate government in her planning towards them,when the need arose,as well as help in checking the sales of fake Spare Parts to innocent customers.
During the interactive session,the government approved Consultant Dr Julius Babogha,assured the Automobile mechanics and artisans of proper documentation void of bias,while he remarked that" adequate awareness sensitization and media publicity,would be carried out,across the State".
Dr Babogha applauded the State Government and the Commissioner for Transport for the unique initiative.
Responding,the different Chairmen, which include , the State Chairman of Artisans and the Special Assistant on Informal Sector Delta State ,Chief Ifeanyi Abanum,the Chairman of Spare Part Dealers Chief Boniface Ezegwe and the State Chairman National Automobile and Technical Association(NATA) Comrade Akpobasah Lucky,all spoke positively,about the all important exercise.
They appreciated the Transport Commissioner for the initiative,which they described as timely and something that would enhance their relationship with government and equally create more trust with their numerous clients,across the State and beyond.
In-attendance during the meeting,were Directors from different Departments,as well as Automobile Executives from Sapele,Ozoro,Oleh,Asaba,Ughelli amongst other places.
