The Delta State Chairman of a Civil Society Organization on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Pastor Greg Sifo has reiterated that the responsibility of every Non-Governmental Organisation in the society is to help improve the living condition of the people by rendering their selfless service and should not be any financial benefit.
Pastor Sifo stated this in Asaba during the Monthly Coordination meeting of ACOMIN for Community Based Organisations and the various state partners for the month of March, 2025.
He told the CBOs to continue to put in more passion while carrying out their statutory duties at the Primary Healthcare centres in the state so as to to get results, adding that it was always rewarding to be our brothers' keeper.
The Cleric informed the CBOs that their progress in the implementation depends largely on their commitment to the project, reminding them that as CBOs in the communities, they were in vintage position to help the people improve the status of their healthcare facilities to enable them receive quality and seamless services delivery.
Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Delta State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Charles Eboka, who lauded the CBOs for their efforts in the various PHC facilities, disclosed that the Agency had commenced assessment of non basic healthcare facilities in the 25 Local Government Areas of the state to enable about 240 that were not receiving funding from the federal government to receive such funding after they had been accredited.
Dr. Eboka said that about 260 Primary Healthcare Facilities in the state were currently being funded by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency while the 240 non basic healthcare facilities were not funded, hence the need for the assessment and subsequent accreditation for them to receive funding from the federal government.
The State Programme Officer of ACOMIN, Juliet Obiajulu, in her presentation on Passion and Motivation , encouraged the CBOs to work with passion and intrinsic motivation, stressing that intrinsic motivation comes from within irrespective of what they might gain while extrinsic motivation had to do with the benefits such as fame , power or money .
Obiajulu, however, explained that when the CBOs focused more on extrinsic motivation, they would miss out the main thing that could help to market them , emphasizing that when they demonstrate passion in whatever they do, they would achieve both intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation, just as she implored them to embrace timely submission of quality reports.
In their various remarks, the State Malaria Programme Officer, Ministry of Health, Dr.(Mrs.) Julie Aniah, the Director of Partnership and Policy Control, State Action for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Mrs. Grace Sifo and the Supply Chain Specialist from MSH, Pharmacist Raymond Emeto recalled that as part of the sustainability plans to ensure continuous availability of test kits for HIV and AIDS and supplies in the healthcare facilities, there was need for the CBOs to solicit the support from well-meaning individuals in the community as government cannot do it all alone.
Speaking further, Mrs. Sifo mentioned that the first lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu had agreed to the request by the National Action for the Control of HIV/AIDS(NACA) to integrate the campaign against HIV and siphilis into her pet project, noting that the HIV/siphilis aspect of the project would be launched in Delta State on March 26.
Dr.(Mrs.) Aniah and Pharmacist Emeto said that mosquitoes treated nets would be distributed in the state towards the end of April and also clarified that supplies of malaria commodities to healthcare facilities would commence next week, even as they told the CBOs to monitor the distribution of the nets to ensure that they get to the real beneficiaries.
