The event, held in Asaba, the Delta State Capital brought together government officials, environmental stakeholders, private sector partners, and civil society organizations under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”, Which emphasizes the urgent need to address the pervasive impact of plastic waste on the ecosystems and human health.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Ejiro highlighted the dangers posed by plastic pollution, which has infiltrated oceans, coastlines, and even the food chain.
He reiterated the State government’s commitment to promoting sustainable environmental practices, which include waste sorting and encouraged investments in plastic recycling.
He noted that the Ministry under his leadership would continue to advocate for sustainable practices and create an enabling environment for investors in plastic recycling, stressing that the process would not only reduce pollution but also transform plastic waste into valuable commodities for the benefit of Deltans and Nigerians.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering support to the ministry , reaffirming his administration’s dedication on environmental sustainability under the M.O.R.E Agenda and the renewed hope Agenda of Presidents Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
He also acknowledged the support of key partners, including Seplat Energy, the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), ZEC Industry Company Limited, and Solid Chemical Recycling Limited.
The 2025 World Environment Day was officially declared open by the Environment Commissioner While urging for a collective effort in the fight against plastic pollution.
