The South-East Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives has called for the resignation of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, following widespread technical failures during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The lawmakers also demanded a complete cancellation of the exercise and a rescheduled examination nationwide.
In a strongly worded statement signed by the caucus leader, Hon. Igariwey Iduma Enwo, the legislators described the conduct of the examination as a national shame and called for immediate disciplinary action against officials overseeing JAMB’s digital operations and examination logistics.
While we acknowledge that the JAMB Registrar is a respected figure, noted that leadership must come with accountability.
We, therefore, urge Prof. Oloyede to step down honorably to allow for a comprehensive investigation and corrective measures. This is the standard in any progressive democracy, and Nigeria should be no exception.
During a press conference on May 14, Oloyede acknowledged the technical issues that marred the examination, admitting that errors had negativity impacted candidates’ performance.

JAMB disclosed that 379,997 candidates would be required to retake the exam due to widespread reports of system malfunctions, unusually low scores, and alleged irregularities in questions and answers. The board attributed the poor performance to technical glitches in 157 out of 887 examination centers.
The lawmakers expressed deep concern over the disproportionate impact on candidates from the five South-Eastern states, emphasizing that the examination’s flawed outcome had denied students equal and adequate educational opportunities.”
“This is not just an administrative failure—it is a catastrophe that has eroded public trust in our education system.
The statement adds that mere apologies cannot undo the damage inflicted on thousands of students and their families. The entire exercise must be scrapped and reorganized to ensure fairness.”
The caucus warned that failure to address the issue decisively could further undermine confidence in national examinations and demanded urgent reforms to prevent future occurrences.
