Delta State government advocate best Legislative practice for Councillors

A two-day capacity-building seminar was organized for local government councillors across the Delta North Senatorial District to enhance their legislative effectiveness. The event held in Asaba, was jointly organized by the Directorate of Local Government Affairs and Wisebest Logistics under the theme: "Achieving Effective Legislative Function within the Local Government System: The Role of Councillors." The Commissioner for Directorate of Local Government Affairs, Honourable Kelly Penewou emphasized that councillorship position serve as the backbone of democratic governance at the grassroots. The Commissioner Represented by the act Permanent secretary of the Directorate Mr Uyeye , he urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties and stressed the importance of continuous training for optimal performance. A retired Head of Service and Chairman on the occasion, Sir Okey Ofili described local government administration as pivotal to grassroots development. He called for the enactment of transparent and sustainable bye-laws and emphasized due process in budgetary approvals. Additionally, he charged councillors to uphold their oversight duties to safeguard citizens' democratic rights. academics delivered insightful presentations on legislative governance at a recent capacity-building workshop for local government officials. The event, focused on enhancing lawmaking efficiency, featured expert analyses on legislative functions, sustainable law creation, oversight mechanisms, and conflict resolution.
