Governor Oborevwori made this statement at the Delta Broadcast Media Conference 2025, held at the Government House in Asaba, the state capital.
The event, themed Broadcast Media: The Pathway to Unlocking Delta's Possibilities," brought together journalists from various media organizations across the state.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the Governor disclosed that efforts are underway to revamp state-owned broadcast stations.
Speaking on the noble profession of journalism, Commissioner Aniagwu shared his experience as a print journalist who also worked in broadcast media for over a decade. He emphasized that his extensive service in both private and public sectors equips him to identify areas requiring intervention.
Aniagwu, who has served as Commissioner for Information since 2015, advised journalists to sharpen their news judgment and provide the public with content that is informative, educative, and entertaining.
He noted that private media stations thrive on marketing funding their organizations
while their programme content often gives them an edge over state-owned stations, which sometimes face excessive censorship.
The Commissioner also highlighted the growing popularity of the social media over traditional media, attributing it to its immediacy and dynamic nature of broadcast.
He described the conference as comprehensive and urged participants to adapt to modern broadcasting . He also commended the organizers for the initiative.
The convener, Mr. Rukky Onoru, and the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Mr. Sammy Fejokwu, emphasized the media's crucial role in advocating for sustainability and environmental protection.
The conference featured insightful lectures by seasoned journalists, to include Mrs. Maupa Ogun-Yusuf, Lady E. Umukoro, and Mr. Peter Nwaochi who is the General Manager of Crown FM.
The highlight was the panel discussants featuring high-ranking journalists, including the General Manager of Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) Asaba.
